NEW YORK -New York has a reputation for being the financial and cultural center of the world. So it was expected that several people from the finance circles graced the Chinese New Year Splendor at Radio City Music Hall.
One such was an Indian American couple from New York City, who came to the Friday evening show of the Splendor. Nikhit Desai is an accountant with KPMG International, and Archana Shah is a banker working with Citigroup.
Nikhit said: "I liked the last one with the drums; that was one of my favorite ones." He was referring to "Tang Court Drummers," in which male dancers in two groups played on large, stationary drums, and female dancers played on smaller drums.
Archana said: "I liked the first dance, the water nymphs," referring to the "Nymphs of the Sea," the dance in which women used blue-green fans to simulate the motion of waves and danced very gracefully.
When asked what they thought of the whole show, Nikhit said: "Its wonderful, fascinating!" Archana added: "I think it's a great introduction to Chinese culture."
Archana added that she liked the show because of her background in learning Chinese classical dance. She said, "I liked it because I studied classical dance and specialized in Chinese classical dance."
The Chinese New Year Splendor continues in New York through Saturday, February 9.
