NEW YORK -Two retirees, Gloria Sampson Knight and Renee Valencia were ecstatic after seeing the Chinese Splendor. Ms. Knight said, "It was fantastic, its message was very clear, I so wish them well, and I want to see the show again. My favorite was the drummers, the drummers!"
It was a full house at Radio City Music Hall as people found the very best way to celebrate Chinese New Year. Divine Performing Arts' Chinese New Year Splendor has been dazzling New Yorkers all week as the city gets ready to welcome the Year of the Rat.
"But I also loved the ballet, I loved the ladies, oh the ballet was absolutely outstanding, and the opera singers were fabulous too! It was just outstanding. I've wanted to see it since I first heard about it," said Ms. Knight.
"It's so vivid and so beautiful. And oh yes, 'Water Sleeves' was just so, so beautifully done. They are so graceful. And I loved the ones with the fans, I loved the fans. Really, there was nothing you couldn't like!"
"The chopstick dance ['Chopstick Zest'], that was fabulous," said Ms. Valencia. "It's my first time seeing this, yes, but I love Chinese New Year, because it comes around my birthday -yesterday was my birthday -and this was my birthday treat, to come and see this show."
When asked about their thoughts about the ancient Chinese culture, Ms. Valencia said, "There's a lot of tradition with the Chinese. And respect for elders, and for society."
Ms. Knight added, "There's so much to it, and the history, 5,000 years, I want to know everything there is to know. It makes you hungry for more information about it."
The Chinese New Year Splendor continues in New York through Saturday, Feb. 9. For other shows in the Divine Performing Arts world tour, please visit: www.DivinePerformingArts.org .
