NEW YORK -On the evening of the Chinese New Year, actress Julia Knight took in the Chinese New Year Splendor with her daughter at Radio City Music Hall. She was quite impressed.

"I have a dance background, so I appreciated the women dancing and the fluidity and the flowing energy and unity as a group. It was profound and very well rehearsed and it takes a long time to have that kind of unity and clarity between the dancers and that was a really beautiful experience."

She added, "I liked the drumming and choreographic fighting because I studied martial arts with a man from Russia whose teacher was from China, so I recognize a lot of the fight choreography."

Knight actually found out about the show because of her daughter.

"My daughter kept seeing the people all over the city in costume and said, 'oh they're so beautiful, the fabrics, the colors, we need to find out about the show.'

"And I'm really grateful we came to see it," said Knight. Knight said the Splendor reminded her of a play her husband, and actor, is currently in.

"That whole play is about oppression and breaking free of it. [The Splendor] had the same themes this evening about people needing to be free to express themselves and celebrate their spirituality without any fear of oppression. So it's a really beautiful message."

Knight is referring to two programs in the Splendor that depict the persecution of Falun Gong in China. Falun Gong is a meditation practice and spiritual discipline currently being brutally suppressed by the Chinese regime.

Knight can be seen in Milk, her improvisational one-woman show about love and motherhood, which will debut in the fall.

After playing 15 shows in New York between January 30 and February 9, the Chinese New Year Splendor will continue its tour of over 65 cities worldwide with its next stop in Europe.
