NEW YORK -In order to get a taste of China's ancient culture, two Japanese students attended the Chinese New Year Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall on Thursday.
"These performers are technical, but also their expression is more… from their heart - I mean they are very sensitive and touching," said Ken Kawaguchi, a theatre student.
"It was very fine, precisely fine."
While they were impressed with the blend of Chinese and western musical instruments in the orchestra, they both said they liked the erhu best. The erhu is a two-stringed Chinese instrument known for its wide range of notes and its haunting sound.
"Oh, I liked the music," said Makiko Mogi, who studies English.
Kawaguchi said he was expecting more acrobatics in the Splendor.
"Actually, I thought they would be more acrobatic, but actually they are not so acrobatic, but more peaceful, very calm. Yes, I really liked it."
After playing 15 shows in New York between January 30 and February 9, the Chinese New Year Splendor will continue its tour of over 65 cities worldwide with its next stop in Europe.
