NEW YORK -Tammea Tyler and her daughter, Serena, joined an audience of happy, smiling faces who were charmed by Thursday evening's production of the Chinese New Year Splendor.

"The show is amazing. I really did not expect anything so beautiful like this… I just saw the drumming piece and that was exquisite, exquisite," said Tammea, a program manager at the YMCA.

"It was much more than I expected. It is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. There is symmetry and I think you learn a lot about Chinese history."

Mother and daughter thought the Splendor hosts were an entertaining part of the show. "They were funny. I really love the language. I now learned how to say Happy New Year in Chinese."

"One of our favorites is the "Nymphs of the Sea." The colors and the movements were so beautiful," added Tammea.

Serena said she liked "The Fruits of Goodness," a piece about two wayward youths who wander into a temple.

"I liked the one with the two boys in the temple. When they were in there, they gave their stuff to the other people that were in the background. It was nice of them to do that. They got rewarded with the book."

After playing 15 shows in New York between January 30 and February 9, the Chinese New Year Splendor will continue its tour of over 65 cities worldwide with its next stop in Europe.
