NEW YORK -The February 9 performance of the Chinese New Year Splendor at Radio City Music Hall was a treat for musicians as well as their families.

Gertrude Devinsky, a piano teacher, was invited to the show by her daughter, Janet Schick, as a Valentine's Day gift. Devinsky is almost 95 but still teaches piano to private students.

"It was simply remarkable, remarkable. The choreography, the customs, the scenery, everything!" said Devinsky. "It was remarkable, remarkable! ... Everything was so beautiful."

Also attending the show was Frank Able, a piano player from Long Island. Frank brought his whole family to see the show, including his wife Marie, his son Nicolas (who is also a drummer), and shy Nathaniel. Able was hoping to expand his children's horizons by introducing them to another culture.

"It's always good for our children to see different things; the world is not just in New York," said Frank. "Even though we are different, we are all the same, the rhythms are the same, the use of colors for emotions. It was really good."

"It was beyond amazing," added Nicolas.

Frank continued by saying, "The movements are so different from hip-hop, but they really matched the music, and you could see where martial arts comes from in their dance. The [women's] hand movements, the way they moved their feet and held their head, it was fascinating to see."

The Divine Performing Arts international touring companies land next in Germany and Japan.
