NEW YORK -"I liked it. It was very relaxing, and I liked the music, and the scenery was really good," said Anessa Machadelva, who discovered the Chinese New Year Splendor in a chance encounter while shopping at Costco earlier this week.

Machadelva and her son, Serge, took in the final performance of the Splendor's 15-show run at Radio City Music Hall Saturday evening.

Ms. Machadelva said she had learned a few things about China from the show, "I did not know that at this time they are still so oppressed in China. I was hoping that they would be a little better by now."

Machadelva was referring to a scene in the show, which tells the story of a contemporary tragedy in China: the persecution of Falun Gong, a meditation practice and spiritual discipline currently being brutally suppressed by the Chinese regime.

Machadelva, a computer programmer, praised the music in the show, which is led by an orchestra.

"I liked the music -it's so smooth, and it's some kind of music I've never heard in my life. And the music is so good."

Serge said his favorite performance was 'Nymphs of the Sea.' "I liked how they use those water-fans to create those watery waves -it was so lifelike. I liked it."

"I loved the show, it's so interesting. I liked when the Chinese man was dreaming, it was pretty funny," he said, referring to a performance called "A Vanished Dream."

The Divine Performing Arts international touring companies land next in Germany and Japan.
